Online Training Tool for EnergySmart Schools Operations and Maintenance

May 25, 2010  12:00–1:15 p.m. ET

Energy-efficient operations and maintenance (O&M) can save as much as 20% in school energy costs. How can school facilities management staff develop and put into action a practical O&M strategy? A new multimedia/online training tool being launched by the U.S. Department of Energy is designed to help. During the training, facilities management staff will gain an understanding of the tools and technologies required to optimize energy efficiency, and insights on how to apply lessons learned to their school district?s specific challenges. In addition, users who complete the online course and subsequent quiz can receive 1.5 Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW) continuing education unit (CEU) credits.

A no-cost, live webcast on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, will introduce school officials and facilities management to this online training tool, which is based on the Guide to Operating and Maintaining EnergySmart Schools, released in June 2009. The webcast will provide a walk-through of key features of the training tool, by function, and will include a panelist discussion on O&M best practices and thoughts about the training tool.

The webcast will be presented by Margo Appel of the U.S. Department of Energy, Kristyn Ivey of Booz Allen Hamilton, and Roger Young of Roger Young & Associates. It is co-sponsored by CEFPI and SchoolDude. Featured panelists are Jason Turner, Energy Coordinator for OnSite Energy Services for the Texas Association of School Boards; and Sue Pierce, Director of Facility Planning and Energy for the Washington Elementary School District in Arizona.
